Why LITTLE SMOKY Gift Co.? Owner and manager, Carla, resides near the small hamlet of Little Smoky in northern Alberta aptly named after the river that flows around it: Little Smoky River.

The river is where Carla, her husband and four children spend many hours playing, swimming, fishing and relaxing. It is a special spot where many memories have been, and continue to be, made. It seemed only fitting to name her company after it when it began in 2019.

What started as a little online shop with only a handful of offerings, has now become a full-time job and has expanded from just online to a permanent retail location.

Valleyview is one of the closest towns to Little Smoky; approximately 45km from Carla's home, and is where the retail store is located.

Carla's favourite thing about the job is creating (& taking photos of) the unique gift sets and baskets that Little Smoky Gift Co. offers. "I love the challenge of finding products that fit well together - not just in how they look, but practically as well".

Little Smoky Gift Co. is a proud supporter of Canadian makers and small businesses. The majority of products in the store are Canadian made or designed.

  • A Note from Carla (owner of Little Smoky Gift Co.)

"Gift giving doesn't have to be complicated. I remember baking with my Grandma (Ila) in her kitchen. We would carefully wrap the homemade treats in tins and tea towels and would drive the country roads taking them around to the neighbours. It was to say: "You are thought of and I care about you". Simple and thoughtful.

Presentation has always played a part in my gifting; I do like things to 'look nice'. My Mom (Lynn) and my Grandma (Arlene) have always presented everything so well: themselves, their homes, their food. It speaks to the fact that whether it is something extravagant or simple, it is important to take care of what we have been given and what we give. I have taken notes from them and I strive to produce gifts that have a pleasing aesthetic.

I see the value in supporting fellow Canadians. Buying from local businesses is a very practical way to support those around us. My hope is that you will see the options presented in my gift shop as an opportunity to join me in supporting Canadian makers and small businesses."
